Ways to Whiten Your Teeth
- Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a wonderful product that is used for many different reasons from whitening your teeth to cooking and even polishing wood. If you have never used coconut oil as part of your whitening regimen, now is the time because it truly works and will help lighten the stains on your teeth.
Many patients have come into our office and said that they used coconut oil and it helped them whiten their teeth. To use coconut oil to whiten your teeth, simply place a spoonful of it in your mouth and swish it around vigorously for 5 to 15 minutes.
Many people do not like to hold the coconut oil in their mouth for this long, so an alternative method is to place a bit of the oil on your toothbrush and brush it directly onto your teeth.
- Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar offers a number of benefits and it is said to be a wonderful healing agent. Many people use apple cider vinegar to whiten their teeth and it is said that the vinegar removes stains and helps to strengthen the teeth in your mouth.
One of the reasons people use this product is because it HAS been shown to actually have results and work as a tooth whitening agent. You do need to make sure you do not use too much as it is acidic and can eat away at your gums.
To use, simply place some apple cider vinegar on your toothbrush and then brush your teeth. Rinse when done and avoid using this product on a daily basis.
- Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda
This is probably one of the most well-known natural ways to whiten your teeth and it is a method that many people use. The combination of the baking soda and peroxide is what makes this formula effective. In fact, you can use either product on its own and it will not yield the same results.
When you mix together the baking soda and peroxide, you want a thick paste to form. The mixture should not be liquid. This is a gritty like substance, so do not brush too vigorously as you may injure your gums. To use, mix together one part of each product and then place the paste on your toothbrush. Brush as you normally would and then rinse.
- Strawberries
Did you know that many celebrities swear by strawberries to whiten your teeth? In fact, Tyra Banks and Catherine Zeta Jones have sworn by it. It is believed that the strawberries have properties to help whiten your teeth and remove stains. To use, you want to mash up strawberries and then place the mixture over your teeth and allow it to sit for a few minutes. When done, rinse your mouth and floss to remove any seeds.
- Citrus Peels
Citrus fruit is a wonderful way to whiten your teeth and you can use both lemon and orange peels to do it. This method is not medically proven to actually work, but many people swear up and down by it. Orange and lemon peels, if nothing else, are wonderful digestion agents and can help calm your stomach and prevent heartburn too.
Final Thoughts on Whitening Your Teeth Naturally
Whitening your teeth naturally is an option that many patients enjoy because they do not have to place chemicals on their teeth, which may cause sensitivity. Dr. Sohn is not against any of the above natural whitening methods and if you want to give them a try, go ahead.
At C S Family Dental, we do offer whitening services to remove stains and brighten your teeth. It is important for you to know that we do not recommend that you use whitening agents over the counter until you have had a consultation with Dr. Sohn. The reason behind this is because some whitening agents can cause a loss of tooth enamel and this can then lead to other complications.
If you have lost tooth enamel due to whitening agents, Dr. Sohn wants to talk to you and offer you a solution to the problem. If you would like to schedule an appointment with C S Family Dental, contact our office now.
